For children up to 12 years from Stonham Aspal Primary and Stonham Aspal village
Stonham Barns Park at Stonham Aspal – one of Suffolk’s premier retail, leisure and holiday venues – has sparked a wave of creativity among Suffolk’s young people by launching a special mug design competition celebrating everything that makes the county unique.
Open to children living in Stonham village or attending Stonham Aspal Primary School, the competition is asking youngsters to create a mug design that captures the spirit of their village or Suffolk as a whole.

It is hoped the responses will be many and varied. Entries could feature some iconic sights including the sweeping curves of the Orwell Bridge, the imposing towers of Framlingham Castle and Orford Castle, the haunting mystery of Sutton Hoo, and even a tribute to Suffolk’s own superstar, Ed Sheeran.
By organising this competition, Stonham Barns Park – and renowned local teapot pottery Carters of Suffolk – will give local children a unique opportunity to share what they love about their home through art – and see it brought to life on a real product – a mug together with a matching teapot!
The winning designs will be professionally printed Carters of Suffolk, turning children’s creativity into something lasting and tangible.
As well as having their designs made into mugs, winners will receive cash prizes of £50, £25 and £10 respectively.
‘We are proud to provide a platform for local children to celebrate where they live and to see their imagination turned into something real,’ said John Baldry from Carters of Suffolk.
‘The entries will show just how much Suffolk means to its young people.’
Said Headteacher Ben Hemmings from Stonham Aspal Primary School, ‘We are delighted to be asked by Stonham Barns Park to take part in this competition which will be open to the children of the school and village over the summer holiday period. It is hoped that this will be an inspiration to many children from our school and the village.’
‘Through this competition, Stonham Barns Park hopes that children will look at the history, landmarks and culture that surround them every day – and to feel proud of calling Suffolk home.’
‘It’s an awesome idea and we are very excited to be a part of it.’
The winning mugs will soon be available to buy at Carters of Suffolk at Stonham Barns Park, giving visitors the chance to take home a piece of Suffolk as seen through the eyes of its next generation of artists.
