The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary flies the flag for Small Animal Charities Week
The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Nature Centre – based at Suffolk’s premier visitor destination Stonham Barns Park at Stonham Aspal – is highlighting its charity work during Small Charities Week 23-29 June.
The registered charity wants to draw attention to the fact that the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Nature Centre relies on the support it gets from animal lovers who visit the centre, sponsor the residents – and recovering visitors – and give donations to the sanctuary.

One of the key roles of the SOS is to help injured owls and other birds of prey. Trained staff at the onsite Reptor Hospital rehabilitate and release the birds back into the wild. At the moment the hospital is looking after two Kestrels, three Barn Owls and Three Tawny Owls.
The SOS has also launched a Wild Owl Nest Box Project which provides safe places for native species to nest and raise their young. In addition, the SOS also provides education to schools and the local community through visits to the venue as well as attendance at local events including the Suffolk Show.
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary Raptor Hospital lead, Dolly Cook, says ‘As a small charity, every donation we receive is vital for us to be able to continue our rehabilitation and conservation work. Just £15 allows us to feed a bird in our Raptor Hospital for a week but many patients stay with us longer and that does not include any medication, vet trips or X-rays it may require – so every donation no matter how small is very important. ‘
‘We would appreciate any support people can give this Small Charities Week – whether it be a donation, visiting our centre or even spreading awareness for the work that we do.’
‘We would be eternally grateful.’

The much-loved charitable organisation operates a comprehensive facility for the care and rehabilitation of raptors from the region, and the public promotion of wildlife conservation throughout the UK and beyond. It is open to the public all year round where it maintains its services with the support of public donations and an adoption scheme.
Adopt an animal schemes are available and make popular presents. They range from £5 monthly upwards.
The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary treats and rehabilitates sick and injured native birds of prey and has a huge and varied collection of birds of prey which are regularly featured in flying displays for the public. At the Nature Centre, and on the Woodland Walk there are mammals too including Meerkats – most recently introduced Porcupines and Armadillos – and Red Squirrels.
There are over 80 birds to see including Owls, Falcons and Vultures. There is also an Education Centre, bug hotels, indoor and outdoor children’s play areas and more.
