timeless treasures become contemporary showpieces in latest home design trend

An inspiring wave of creativity is making a comeback through the world of interior design, as homeowners and decorators alike rediscover the beauty and character of antiques.

Aspal Antiques – based at Stonham Barns Park at Stonham Aspal – renowned for its diverse and carefully curated collection, has reported a significant rise in customers choosing antique pieces as striking embellishments for contemporary homes.

The trend, described by design experts as ‘The Art of Mixing,’ sees rare and beautiful antiques -from statement mirrors and sculptural lighting to heirloom furniture and ornamental works of art – reimagined as focal points in minimalist and modern settings. Each piece not only tells a story but also brings a sense of history and individuality to even the most streamlined interiors.

‘In recent months, we have noticed a remarkable shift in the way our clients are approaching home styling, says Henri Lewis of Aspal Antiques. ‘Rather than following fleeting trends, people are looking for ways to reflect their unique personalities and add character to their living spaces. Selecting a single antique – be it a Regency console table, a gilded wall sconce, or a set of vintage botanical prints – can transform a room, making it feel both warm and welcoming.’

‘This movement towards incorporating vintage and antique elements is driven by a growing desire for sustainability, authenticity, and craftsmanship. Unlike mass-produced décor, each antique at Aspal Antiques is a one-of-a-kind piece, chosen for its design merit, provenance, and potential to complement today’s interiors.’

‘Clients are blending period finds with modern artworks, textiles, and colour schemes, resulting in homes that are eclectic yet harmonious.’

The shop’s recent collaborations with other local antiques traders have attracted a new generation of collectors, while long-standing enthusiasts continue to find inspiration among newly sourced treasures. With an ever-changing inventory that includes everything from Art Deco vases to mid-century modern seating, Aspal Antiques is offering something for every taste and every room.

Continues partner Alan Knight, ‘We love helping our customers find that perfect piece.’

‘Seeing how an eighteenth-century chest of drawers or a Victorian marble bust can enliven a modern space is endlessly rewarding. Antiques are not just for traditional homes – they are for anyone who values beauty, history, and a touch of the unexpected.’

‘It’s like a touch of theatre for your home.’

Aspal Antiques – alongside its sister businesses Aspal Emporium and Aspal Reclaim – is hosting an Antiques Fair at Stonham Barns Park next year.  It will be its fifth antiques fair on 14 March to showcase antiques and collectables for the home and garden including retro, vintage and other historical items.

The Aspal Antiques Fair will feature established and start up traders from the antiques sector in the region.  It’s free entry to the public and attracts hundreds of buyers from across Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex.

The business has played host to Drew Pritchard from the TV Series Salvage Hunters and presenters from The Antiques Road Trip.

Other retailers at Stonham Barns Park include Stonham Garden and Home Centre, Carters of Suffolk, Hemingstone Frames, Hot Tub Village, Tiger Sheds, Stonham Village Stores, Suffolk Bridal Outlet, The Beauty Barn, The Vintage Cellar, The Book Cellar and The Little Dance Barn.  Among the most recent retail additions to the village are GG Trading Cards, Sakura Studio Gallery, The Serpent and Rose Tattoo Studio and Glen’s Collectables.

New ‘Golfing’ Lodges Bring Fresh Interest to Holiday Lodge Sales at Stonham Barns Park in Suffolk

Stonham Barns Park has a range of luxury static holiday homes and lodges with    breath-taking views over the Suffolk countryside, stunning fishing lakes and golf courses. A peaceful and tranquil holiday lodge location, it is being enhanced during Spring/Summer 2025 with the introduction of a new phase of luxury Golf Course Lodges ‘The Fairways’.

Rewilded meadows, countryside beauty and an overwhelming feeling of wellness are on offer to holiday lodge buyers who choose Suffolk.

Visitors can simply stay at Stonham Barns Park or try and buy – prospective buyers can select from the new collection of seven lodges – all planning approved – that run alongside a top quality nine-hole golf course.  The scenic course is suitable for juniors, beginners, families and offers a challenge to even more experienced players.  Everyone is welcome at Stonham Barns Golf Park – which offers other golfing experiences like Adventure Golf, Footgolf and golf simulators too – and there are no dress rules or restrictions for anyone wanting to play.

There are also two silver fish fishing lakes with lake view lodges available for keen anglers who are seeking get-away-fishing breaks at Fishing Lake Lodges.

Next to the Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex coast, Stonham Barns Park is a go-to destination venue for families from the East of England and from all over the UK. Holiday rentals can be the route to purchasing a holiday home as many people who visit then want to explore holiday home ownership options.  Buyers also include those looking to invest some money maybe from the sale of an asset, lottery win or inheritance.

Over the past two years, more people have purchased a holiday home in the UK to save on the uncertainty of travelling abroad and the increased cost of foreign travel. Some have even purchased a holiday bolthole near to family to combine a break away with a chance to see family members, who might not have the space to accommodate family members for visits.

Joanne Brooks, newly appointed Lodge Sales Representative based at Stonham Barns Park, talks about the variety of state-of-the-art static caravans and lodges that you can invest in to make the most of a ‘family and friends’ holiday. ‘You can use the holiday homes for up to 11 months of the year you simply need a main residential address to buy – the season runs from February to December every year.’

‘The lodges and static caravans are now beautifully modern holiday homes.  They have evolved to residential level luxury and so are attracting a new set of buyers who want to optimise their mini breaks during the year.  Some just want to get away from their home locations at the weekends and some want to visit family and friends in the area without relying directly on their hospitality!’

A holiday home in the static section of Stonham Barns Park holiday park can be purchased for anything from £15,000 to £70,000.  These are typically 2-bedroomed caravans that sleep up to 6 people.  Those who buy and rent out to family and friends can often expect to pay for their investment in around 3-4 years.

Lodge sales can range from £70,000 to £250,000 and come with lake or golf locations, a 6-metre strip of land. They can be enhanced with decking, a BBQ and a hot tub.

Master bedrooms with showers and open plan kitchen and living areas make the accommodation feel like a home from home.  An outdoor lifestyle including Al Fresco dining are major drivers for a UK holiday home purchase.

Adds Fraser Brooks, also from the Lodge Sales Team, ‘Short breaks are now more popular than ever as people look to take regular breaks away from home.’

‘Some are choosing to buy into lodge accommodation as a base for short breaks and fishing, golf and wildlife watching are often cited as reasons to buy. The Suffolk coastline is a magnet for people from the East of England who want to head for the country and coast for a relaxing break.’

New leisure facilities have recently been added to Stonham Barns Park to enhance the visitor experience including a new bar and clubhouse and new children’s play facilities.  The venue also includes an owl sanctuary and birds of prey centre, theatre, teapot pottery and around 40 village shops, and a café and restaurant and a garden centre.

two Christmas Craft Market Weekends will go all-out to bring festive goodwill to families

The feature-packed and brightly-lit Christmas Craft Market will be staged again at  Stonham Barns Park this year – but instead of the market being on one weekend it will span two – 23 and 24 November and 30 November and 1 December (from 10am – 4.00pm) to enable more visitors to start the festive season early with some Christmas shopping and activities.

With mince pies, mulled wine, hot chestnuts, live music and Christmas lights Stonham Barns Park – one of Suffolk’s premier leisure and entertainment venues – is preparing to pull out all the stops and put on two weekends of ‘festive fun’ for both adults and children.  The Snow Queen, Snow Princess and some magical elves including Snowball, Sparkle, Holly and Tinsel will be attending as part of the weekend for photo opportunities. There will also be a Santa’s Grotto too where children will each receive a special Christmas gift!

Explains Terri Forward from Stonham Barns Park, ‘Christmas is all about families being together and we are planning to make the season truly magical with our annual Christmas Craft Market which this year is extending across two weekends.  Last year was so well attended that we decided to run the market for two consecutive weekends to enable more people to visit.’

‘We are arranging our biggest and best yet with all the ideas we can put into it including Santa’s Grotto, a funfair for the children, train rides, face painting and delicious food and drink outlets.’

‘We are hoping to make this an extravaganza of all things festive so that people can get themselves set for Christmas.  The gift ideas will all be here as well as lots of Christmas traditions and activities that will help to start the celebrations this year.’

‘The gift and craft retailers attending will be offering some delightful gifts and decorations, and we think many people will support these local businesses by coming to see what’s on offer.’

The markets will feature uniquely handmade, handcrafted gifts and products, mostly made in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. Lexden-based YouTuber Corrine Bradd from Crafts Beautiful Magazine – will be attending doing LIVE demos for the visitors and social media followers.  In addition, visitors will be able to shop at the retail village which is packed with 1000s of Christmas gift ideas.  There are arts and craft shops, the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, Carters of Suffolk pottery and newly enhanced tearooms and Legends Bar.

The events offer visitors free parking and free entry.

Tickets for the grotto will cost £10 per child under 12.  They can be booked in advance as walk-in spaces may be limited on the day.

Other retailers at Stonham Barns Park include Aspal Antiques, Aspal Emporium, Aspal Reclamation Yard, Stonham Garden Centre, Carters of Suffolk, Hemingstone Frames, Hot Tub Village, Ideal Interiors, Tiger Sheds, Stonham Village Stores, Suffolk Bridal Outlet, The Beauty Barn, The Vintage Cellar, The Book Cellar and The Little Dance Barn.  Among the most recent retail additions to the village are The Dogs Business, GG Trading Cards, Sakura Studio Gallery and Mamiina.

New Development of Luxury Holiday Homes on the Suffolk/Norfolk Border with an Open Day coming up for prospective buyers

A glamping camp site at Brome in Suffolk – on the Suffolk/Norfolk border – is replacing bell tents with luxury holiday homes in a new initiative – Oak Lodge Park – to bring holiday home ownership to those who love to explore the beauty and host of activities offered by the two much-loved counties.

The family run Oak Lodge Retreat is set in the middle of an idyllic rural landscape away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life which made it the ideal spot to develop into a new development of luxury holiday homes for buyers from all over the UK.  An Open Day event at the venue will bring the holiday lodge concept to prospective buyers on Saturday 10 August.

Explains owner Paul Razey, ‘This will be one of the most beautiful holiday parks in Suffolk when it is completed because of its tree-lined, delightful location.  It is a holiday sanctuary which will eventually be a gated community, an oasis of calm and tranquillity. As a glamping base this location at Nick’s Lane, Brome has been highly praised by our regular visitors.  It is a very special place to relax and unwind – and to explore all the amenities offered by Norfolk and Suffolk.  It has been our intention to keep this plot for quality holidays and now that we have permission to develop the site into a holiday park for use for all 12 months of the year we are looking forward to realising our vision for the ultimate holiday location in the months ahead.’

Phase one of the development will see the development of 12 new lodges – in a choice of single and twin plots.  The holiday homes will be offered from leading manufacturers including Atlas and Pemberton.  Those purchasing lodges will be able to choose the layout and design that is best for their family.  As a family site, dogs are welcome at the site as there are many walks in the area for them to enjoy.

Continues Paul, ‘It seems that the appetite for holiday home ownership is as strong as ever as people are looking to spend precious time with family and friends and the UK still offers the best opportunity for this to happen.  It’s all about making memories and this is something that only the UK can offer.  It’s stress free ‘homely’ set up means people can have fun without the limitations of being overseas. Owning your own UK holiday home gives you more opportunities to spend time with loved ones – and this is what we are offering here in this glorious setting.’

The new holiday homes start from £85,000 for high specification, contemporary accommodation.  Pitch fees include VAT, local rates and water.  There are no facilities onsite but for top quality food and drink, or extra accommodation for visiting family and friends, The Oaksmere, a delightfully restored country house boutique hotel and restaurant is only a two-minute drive away.

Oak Lodge Park is surrounded by stunning countryside with the nearest main town of Eye, which is also just a two-minute drive away.  The picturesque town of Diss is also close by.  Other places of interest include the seaside town of Southwold, Aldeburgh, Framlingham Castle and one of Suffolk’s premier leisure, retail and holiday venues, Stonham Barns Park at Stonham Aspal, near Stowmarket.  A day out for the whole family with onsite attractions including an owl sanctuary, golf park, retail village, fishing lakes, café, seasonal fairground and weekly family shows.

top UK country singer with a huge UK following is set to entertain East Anglia throughout 2024

Stonham Barns Park – one of Suffolk’s premier leisure, retail and holiday destinations – is set for a mega year of country music with no less than three separate festivals covering the months of April, June and September.

The first festival weekend will be headlined by top UK country singer Henry Smith – one of the UK’s most revered country music artists who battles a disorder that can prevent him speaking – on 5, 6 and 7 April.

He will be joined by the Henry Smith Dreams Band and compares Steve Farrar and DJ Pepper introducing the Ian Highland Band, Warren Dewitt, Nashville Numbers, Ainsley Kirkman, Norman Borland and Kenny Junior who will be helping Henry to celebrate his recovery and return to country music.

The Henry Smith Country Music Festival will also showcase up and coming artists Theresa Coupland, Jimmy Greggory and Cassie B (A Patsy Cline Tribute).

The fact that Henry Smith back singing is nothing short of phenomenal.  He is one of the most influential country singers in the UK and Europe with his blend of traditional and contemporary country music.  It’s a miracle that he’s able to talk – with Spasmodic Dystonia – let alone sing so beautifully. Henry has sung all over the UK, he’s travelled to Europe and parts of the USA with his band, and he has a huge and dedicated following of country music fans.

Speaking about the Henry Smith Country Music Festival, Janice Rowles of Stonham Barns Park said: ‘Suffolk is the perfect setting for country music, and we are delighted to be inviting Henry Smith back to perform at Stonham Barns Park.  He is such a talent and such a personality to have battled his voice challenge head on and won.  It is such an honour to have him booked to perform here for three separate festivals.’

‘We have always showcased country music here and are planning to develop this offering further into 2024.’

‘Country fans can witness this amazing man singing his favourite songs at The Barn at Stonham Barns Park as he continues to celebrate his recovery.’

In 2017, Henry first noticed a problem with his voice as he was not able to hit some of the notes while he was on stage singing, this then progressed to the odd word that just would not come out of his mouth.  Soon talking then became a problem. It was a real strain to talk and then his voice just went completely. Then followed many devastating years for Henry not being able to do what he loved best, entertaining people with his singing, telling his witty jokes and talking to his fans.  Henry received treatment via the NHS – he’s been hypnotised and sent for botox injections on both sides of the larynx.  The success was short lived. Not being able to talk and sing has taken its toll on Henry, without being able to entertain or just talk to friends and family, he felt nothing but despair. His family, friends and fans were supporting him, but they all felt helpless as they could not help him with getting his voice back ……or so they thought!

One day (in 2022) he woke up and his voice made a sound! After careful progress, many months later, Henry was back singing. It was a miracle and what a voice he has.

Country fans can witness this amazing man singing his favourite songs at The Barn at Stonham Barns Park as he continues to celebrate his recovery.

Stonham Barns Park is a bustling family complex offering accommodation, attractions and activities based in the heart of Suffolk, UK. Activities at the leisure, retail and holiday venue include The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary, Café 24, The Golf Centre including Adventure Golf and FootGolf, The Teapot Pottery, holiday lodges, a caravan park, camping and glamping, and fishing lakes.

New Card Making Workshops to run at Stonham Barns Park

Sophisticated hand-made products are finding their place in a chaotic world

When life is wild and hectic, so many of us look to creativity for calm.

A new outlet at Stonham Barns Park – set up by mother and daughter duo Carlie Drummond (who lives in Hadleigh) and Maria Johnson (who lives in Ipswich) – have launched a range of jewellery and gift products to remind us to look at the wider universe for positive energy.  Kalming Kreations is a business that was six-years in the making bringing the most beautiful pieces of handmade jewellery, cards, gift boxes and more to customers of all ages and walks of life.

And now the business is offering a craft workshop course to teach beginners how to make beautifully personalised greeting cards.

Carlie focuses on making unusual-shaped greetings cards, card craft creating unique gift bags and gift boxes, and jewellery. She is running the beginners card making course – which runs for 4 weeks on Thursdays – from 14 March.  Says Carlie, ‘This is a course designed for all the hobbyists out there who fancy a look at something different or anyone wanting a new hobby. Anyone qualifies for a potential greetings card maker.  You just need creativity and the willingness to learn some new techniques. ‘Who has not struggled to find cards on the high street that fit the occasion?  Sometimes it’s impossible to match someone to a set of cards and it is for this reason we are encouraging people to do their own thing and try something new with a new workshop at Stonham Barns Park.’

The beginners card making course runs for 4 weeks with hours from 10.00am – 4.00pm.  All participants will receive a free starter kit.  The cost of the course is £80 which covers all materials.
