an increasing demand for upcycling brings an extra day for bargain hunters
The traditional Car Boot Sales at Stonham Barns Park – one of Suffolk’s premier leisure, retail and holiday destination in Suffolk – are upping a gear for the summer months with a new Thursday date to add to the regular Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday sales. All starting at 7.00am in the morning and running until October.
While weather dependent, car boot sales are the perfect place to sell any unwanted possessions and buy a bargain or two at the same time.
The Sunday event is boosted throughout the spring, summer and autumn seasons by the shows and events held at the venue’s Mid-Suffolk Showground which makes it one of Suffolk’s most popular Sunday Car Boots.
The event is outdoors where sellers can just turn up and sell on the day. Covered stalls are available enabling sellers to guarantee a main field position and these can be pre-booked to avoid having to bring tables to sell from. Ideal for antique sellers, loft clearers and one-off sellers, there are a large number of people who attend regularly to seek out or sell bargains.
Says organiser Simon Tilley, ‘We are happy to be adding the extra Thursday to Stonham Barns Park’s calendar – where bargains and treasure are discovered on a weekly basis. The atmosphere of the sale is fabulous, and the event is extremely popular with the local community and visitors to the campsite, holiday park and retail and leisure village.’
There are a huge family of regulars who meet up at the sales and many enjoy the variety of wandering around the shops at the venue once the car boots have finished.
Continues Simon, ‘We are hoping to make the Thursday sale as popular as the others and offer the chance to sell at a much lower rate than the weekend. It has been 15 years since I started the Sunday sales which are now such a success.’

‘I am adding more content to the Sunday event including a greengrocer, baker and lots of home-based plant growers to see where I can take this next. Hopefully the Thursday sale will build to be a great one for buyers and sellers week in week out.’
